Crib Recall!!!

We just happened to be watching the news last night...we don't always, thank you Lord!!...and saw a teaser for the 6 o'clock news for a story about crib recalls. I looked up at the screen, and there was Malachi's crib. My insides jumped a little, but I was hoping that it was just a very similar crib. We were going to my brother's softball game, so Samuel set the VCR (no, we don't have DVR...we are behind the times:)!!) so that we could watch the story when we got home. Once we watched it, my heart sank even further...it was for cribs sold at Toys R Us and Babies R Us, and we had bought ours during the specified time period. The slats on the crib sides can come loose and the child can fall through and become injured or strangled. (Luckily no one has died, only a couple injuries, but lots of incidences of this happening) They also went on to say both on TV and online that the cribs aren't safe enough for your child to sleep in them for even one night!! Oh boy!! Malachi was already asleep, so we couldn't check last night, but I did it first thing this morning. Sure enough, we were included. The news story talked about how there is no way to contact the manufacturer except by an internet form, but we didn't find that to be true. I called the number on the web page for the recall and spoke directly to someone. The really crummy thing about it is that you can't take the crib back to the store. You have to wait 1 to 2 weeks for them to send you a kit which tells you which parts they want back and then once you do that, you have to wait another 1 to 2 weeks for them to send you a voucher to turn in for a new crib. Hopefully, the kit and voucher will come on time so Malachi doesn't have to sleep in his pack and play for too long!!

I hope you don't have an icky crib, too!!!

I always find it a little crazy to hear that they don't think it is safe for your baby to sleep in the crib THAT NIGHT, BUT the replacement or fix it part will take 6 -8 weeks....seems so contradictory! :) I hope you get the new part soon and all is well! Thank you Lord for the right news report at the exact time you were watching! :)
